Jane Prentice (LNP) - Response to Internet Filter/SOPA letter

Another response, this time from Jane Prentice, the member for Ryan (my electorate near Brisbane, QLD).

The Gist:
"...the Coalition will continue to oppose Labor’s approach to regulating the internet and will continue to work with parents, ISPs and police to deliver common sense measures to protect young users from online content that is illegal or inappropriate."

Jane says "The Coalition" supports policies to protect young people from online threats through education and home-based filtering technologies.

Also slams the Labour Government, and Communications Minister Stephen Conroy.

Read the full response below...

Dear Mr [Chimp],Thank you for taking the time to write to me about the debate regarding internet filtering.
The Coalition has always strongly supported policies to protect young people from online threats.  In Government we provided families with free home-based internet filtering software, and increased specialist police resources to fight internet crime. We have also supported expanding the Cyber safety Outreach programs to better educate students, parents and teachers.Regrettably, the Labor Government reversed some of these straight forward and successful measures and instead proposed a flawed plan to filter all internet content in order to protect Australian children.
Although their plan has met with opposition from internet users, ISPs, legal and technical experts, businesses and state governments,  the Communications Minister Stephen Conroy continues to pursue the filter system as the best way to proceed.
To date, Senator Conroy has not managed to produce any legislation to implement the filter and the Coalition will continue to oppose Labor’s approach to regulating the internet and will continue to work with parents, ISPs and police to deliver common sense measures to protect young users from online content that is illegal or inappropriate. Sincerely,OFFICE OF JANE PRENTICE MPFederal Member for Ryan

[Note: In my original email to our politicians, I didn't have the sections on 'Misrepresentation of the scale of these "Problems"', and 'Alternatives'- So Sandra's response should be considered in the correct context]
