These are initial results! I may change them as new information about the candidates comes to light.
Linked to each candidate's name is their initial response, some have additional correspondence, use the search feature to find candidates of interest.
What this table shows is how closely each candidates matches the views expressed in the Chimp Manifesto, plus a completely subjective field about whether the candidate was able to put forth a rational explanation.
This final field is VERY important to me.

Sandra BAYLEY (The Greens) |
In a telephone call, Sandra said that "border protection" implies some sort of military threat. We aren't being invaded. asylum seekers don't fall in to that category. | Agreed that it won't work. Would like to see ways of eliminating pedophilia on the net. But the filter won't work. | A very brief discussion about an interim carbon tax until an proper trading scheme can get up and running. | "No Issue" with gay marriage | Spoke to the party issues well. Obviously busy, but did take the time to talk. A little concerned by the party. |
Michael JOHNSON (Independent) |
I like his onshore processing idea, dislike his removal of 'due process' and appeals. Too hard line. | We are agreed. | Michael has some thoughts on renewable energy, disagrees with carbon price/tax | Disagree. No elaboration | Took the time to speak to me on the phone. Articulate, well spoken. |
Allan VINCENT (Family First) |
A good answer | Unfortunately reached for the "won't somebody think of the children" card | Appears to acknowledge the problem, but wants a rewards based approach | Disagree. No elaboration | Ehh.. The answers were good. My views are probably tainted by the party stance. As an independent I'd think higher. |

Donald Bambrick Independent Byfield (between Gladstone and Mackay) |
Excellent answer | Mixed message, but I think he has the right idea but a lack of understanding of the complexities and related issues. | Also a good answer - wants more compensation for low income earners as protection against a carbon price, and higher taxes for the polluters. | Is uncomfortable with it - BUT to his credit, is able to overcome his discomfort in the name of equa'lity. | Don has some good policies, and what really hits hard with me is his ability to be rational when considering a problem/answer. The fact that he's uncomfortable with Gay marriage, but can support it for the reason of equality. |
Peter Pyke Independent Toowoomba area |
Tougher protection, but more intake and humane onshore treatment for asylum seekers | Against the internet filter - AND makes note about NBN how it should remain public! | Against Carbon Price, apparently only the greens want a price on carbon. Played in to the fear of a tax hurting the economy, BUT he's for carbon reduction in all its forms. As far as a 'no' answer goes, this was well thought out at least. | Not against Gay Marriage. Doesn't seem to want to call it marriage, but registered partnerships, the discussion on the site is decent. | This guy is also VERY keen. He's had LOTS of interaction with me, and I think they're still forming policy. Misses the point on a few issues but is considerate and articulate. |
John Pyke Limit Pokies Brisbane Area |
Excellent answer!"Nobody is threatening to invade us. We should do what we can to dissuade poor desperate folk from risking their lives to get here in an irregular way, but let's not demonise them as 'illegal'" | For it (conditionally) | A good response, understands the issues of global warming, and is keen on creating a market mechanism which Australia would do well out of | Makes a bit of a joke about it (why would gays want to be as unhappy as the rest of us), BUT also doesn't understand why the chuch should care! Wants registered civil unions. | Good well thought out answers, I'm not in full agreement on his Internet Filter response, again I believe anyone supporting such filters doesn't fully understand the technological implications. BUT a great candidate! |
E-Jay Lindsay-Park (Independent) Kingaroy |
Indicates everyone wants better border security, Including imported produce. Safe humane treatment. | Filters should be the responsibility of parents | Thinks it will happen. But the greens won't do it constructively. | "Will Reflect The Community" - I would have preferred a response | In general agreement with E-Jay. E-Jay took a lot of time to respond, and has since followed up again. Would have liked a response on 'gay marriage' |
Mark White Independent Yeppoon |
Not a bad answer, wants to use Australian embassies for better processing and arrival points. But misses the "boat people" question. | Vehemently opposes the proposed Internet Filter and Internet Censorship | Says he's against (conditionally), but would support it if it had realistic quantifiable targets | Points out this is a narrow topic designed to inflame people - misses the point on 'marriage' | Not bad, articulate, and considered responses. Does well to separate the emotive crap from fact and policy |
Tim Sheen Sex Party Sunshine Coast |
Hasn't really considered it, but personally wants tougher border protection. Unfortunately I think he's playing in to the fear game a little on this issue. He does seem compassionate toward refugee issues. | Against the Internet Filter and government intervention in private affairs. BUT for policing real criminals and stopping child porn. | The party has no climate change policy but he agrees something needs to be done. Believes in global warming. | Decent answer | Happy to preference Tim quite high on the ballot, but I do have concerns with a party that hasn't considered the other topical issues. I think it's important for my representatives to be across MOST topical issues. |
Paul SPENCER (Independent) MAROOCHYDORE QLD 4558 |
Nice answer. In general agreement. | Paul and Mary are not aware of the issue. I respect their honesty but need to mark this 'down' | Their aim is to cut greenhouse gasses, not make them more expensive. I understand the sentiment but don't believe this will work | Nice answer | Paul and Mary seem to have thought somewhat about the issues. Their sentiments are fine, but I do believe we need our elected officials to be able to respond on current topical issues |
Larissa Waters Greens Brisbane Area? |
In agreement. The party has relatively good policies on this. | In agreement - party line response | In agreement - BUT see notes in far right column | Agree | I will preference a LOT of other people above the greens. I think the party is getting too extreme to come to reasonable workable solutions. Their policies are generally good, BUT their execution is terrible, they'll vote against something they partially agree with, to push a harder agenda. |
Libby Connors Greens |
In agreement. The party has relatively good policies on this. | In agreement - party line response | In agreement - BUT see notes in far right column | Agree | (Copy paste from above!) I will preference a LOT of other people above the greens. I think the party is getting too extreme to come to reasonable workable solutions. Their policies are generally good, BUT their execution is terrible, they'll vote against something they partially agree with, to push a harder agenda. |
Keith Douglas Fishing and Lifestyle Main Beach (Gold Coast Area) |
For - Believes we are a target for terrorist infiltration (playing on fear) | Does not support censorship of the Internet | Want's practical change. But goes on to cite corruption amongst scientists and says there's no conclusive link to CO2 but still believes energy efficiency is a positive thing. | No Opposition - people have a right to live their life how they see fit if they do not harm others. | A well considered response to my questions, unfortunately I think his opinions on 'terror threats' and global warming stop me. |
Jan McLucas Labor Cairns |
Elaborated on the standard party line - pro 'orderly migration' | Supports Conroy's internet filter | Standard party policy | Standard party policy | Jan's answers were considered, I think the party's race to pander to the dumbest Australians is holding them back. I will prefrence Jan about middle of the pack, for taking the time to consider each response. |
David Smith ALP South Brisbane |
Standard party line | Standard party line | Standard party line | Standard party line | I was once a Labor voter - on my ballot they'll preference above the LNP, and above the hate mongers. But they don't represent me well. |
Brett Mason LNP Upper Mt Gravatt |
For | Against the compulsory Labor one | Against | Against | The views of Brett Mason appear to track exactly with the rest of the party responses. |
Russell Wattie (Independent) Tiaro - Betwene Gympie and Maryborough |
For | Against the filter | Against | For | I like his position on the Internet Filter and Gay marriage. But I've read around the internet at some of his other writings, Seems like a godo guy, but I don't think he could represent me. |
Peter FINDLAY (Family First) Toowoomba |
Has a rather compassionate view. Said "Basically anyone who isn't a terrorist should be welcome in Australia" but is not necessary for 'multiculturalism' | Didn't really answer | Didn't really answer | Simply disagree | Well spoken and articulate on the issues that were of importance to him. Unfortunately they don't align with my issues. |
Ian Nelson (One Nation) Brisbane Area |
Vehemently against 'forced multiculturalism'. Says 80% of gang members are Asian or Muslim (Though supports genuine refugees). |
Against the filter | Against - doesn't believe carbon is a problem | Against | Very passionate about 'representing' Australia. Well spoken, but he says my views are too conciliatory. |
Wendy Francis (Family Firs) ASPLEY QLD 4034 |
Against | Again with "won't somebody think of the children" - At least 'against' | Doesn't think Australia is ready for ETS. But agrees that something should be done. | Disagree - And further swayed by her Twitter Gay Marriage = Child Abuse thing. | Aware of the bad publicity surrounding Twitter. Personally think that was a beat up, people often say stupid things without thinking. Unfortunately when given the chance to clarify, she stuck by it. Dumb move. |
Noel Jackson Democratic Labor Party General Brisbane Area? |
For - Their 2 for 1 policy is just simplistic and plays even more on the 'send the bastards home' attitudes of a few | Thinks it will try to reduce the transmission of kiddy porn and bomb making information | Says it's just a cynical tax | Opposes it as being pointless. Does make some reconciliatory remarks about better inheritance laws. But misses the point. | I've also read the DLP's website. Much of the writing there is poorly thought out, overly simplistic and in some cases plain racist in my opinion. As an independent might fare better, but with the party. Not for me! |
Mark Smith Gold Coast Area |
Can't find any answers | Can't find any answers | Can't find any answers | Can't find any answers | I can't vote for a "Single Issue" candidate that has given no obvious consideration to other topics. Even after I wrote back to him. |
