Quick Summary
- [Hardening up Border Protection Laws] Extended Answer - For
- [The Internet Filter] Extended Answer - Against
- [A Price on Carbon / ETS] Extended Answer - For
- [Gay marriage] No answer - says they'll "Represent the community"
Thanks for your questions but sorry there will be no party response from me. I am standing as a self funded Independent Senate candidate. As an Independent it will be my job to represent the community view. Furthermore, don't expect to not hear from me between elections. I intend to have very open and frequent communications with my electors. That's what I have always believed the people we vote for are meant to be doing.
To answer your questions:
All the people I have been speaking with indicate clearly that they want better border protection laws. Not just related to people but to imported produce too. There is a qualification on this and that is that safety and humane treatment are essential.
Regards the Internet Filter, almost everyone comments on the contradiction between the National Broadband network to speed up communications and commerce but with the addition of the filter the effect will be to slow down these processes. The popular view is that filters are the responsibility of the users ie parents and individuals can access online filters etc
The ETS is going to happen but no one I speak with believes the Greens will do this constructively. The main view being that the Greens set deadlines. The preferred approach will be based on innovative technology, skill building, resourcing for change which leads to sustainable change.
I have been following the Gay marriage poll on Penny Wong's website. This is a very emotive issue for some due to their religious beliefs. As an Independent Senator I would stand to represent the view reflected by the wider community.
The key point to be made is that as an Independent I will represent the community view, it is not about my personal view or any preconceived party view. At the risk of sounding boring, should I be elected my job will be to work for the community the state I stand in, for me there is not better service possible.
Please feel free to ask me any further questions as they arise. I am out on the road a lot as you can imagine. Given the area I'm covering internet access is not always reliable. There may be some delay in my response but I will do my best to get back to you in a timely manner.
Regards,
E-Jay Lindsay-Park
Independent Senate candidate
