QLD Senate - Peter Findlay (Family First) - Initial Reply

Peter Findlay (Family First) didn't respond to anything except question 4 about gay marriage.

Quick Summary:

  1. [Hardening up Border Protection Laws] *No Answer*
  2. [The Internet Filter] *No Answer*
  3. [A Price on Carbon / ETS]  *No Answer*
  4. [Gay marriage] Against
He did however give me the "Won't somebody think of the children" line.
The Simpson's - Thinking of the children! :)
My reply to Peter is listed after his response.

The problem in responding to your questions, is that a 'for/against'
answer is simply not possible on most of these complex questions. There
may be some aspects that are practical and could be supported whilst
other aspects should be rejected outright...except for Question 4.
Re the gay Marriage question, Family First believes the current Marriage
Act has served Australia well for the past 50 years. We see no reason
to change the existing laws on marriage. Any move to legalise gay
marriage would discriminate against children and be a violation of the
UN convention on the Rights of a Child. The real question is, are we
going to put the interests of children first or not?

Peter Findlay

I really wanted something more than that, so I responded:

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Unfortunately, you didn't
really answer any of my questions or make comment on any of them. You
did manage a substantial response to the question of gay marriage -
which makes it look like that's ALL you're campaigning on.
It also indicates to me makes it clear that your policy framework on
other issues of importance just isn't there.
Unfortunately "Won't somebody think of the children" is just the
lamest catch cry - and well parodied by The Simpsons.
I do however thank you for taking the time to respond, it's much more
than many candidates took the time to do. As such, although I probably
won't vote for you, I will place my 'under the line' preferences with
respondents ahead of non-respondents.
Good luck with your campaign.
