Peter Findlay (Family First) didn't respond to anything except question 4 about gay marriage. Quick Summary:
- [Hardening up Border Protection Laws] *No Answer*
- [The Internet Filter] *No Answer*
- [A Price on Carbon / ETS] *No Answer*
- [Gay marriage] Against
He did however give me the "Won't somebody think of the children" line. The Simpson's - Thinking of the children! :)My reply to Peter is listed after his response.
From: Peter Findlay (QLD Senate, Family First)Sent: Tue Aug 03 17:34:00 2010Subject: RE: Hello would be Senators - I have 4 quick questions. The problem in responding to your questions, is that a 'for/against'answer is simply not possible on most of these complex questions. Theremay be some aspects that are practical and could be supported whilstother aspects should be rejected outright...except for Question 4.Re the gay Marriage question, Family First believes the current MarriageAct has served Australia well for the past 50 years. We see no reasonto change the existing laws on marriage. Any move to legalise gaymarriage would discriminate against children and be a violation of theUN convention on the Rights of a Child. The real question is, are wegoing to put the interests of children first or not?RegardsPeter FindlayI really wanted something more than that, so I responded:From: The Political ChimpSent: Tue Aug 03 18:53:00 2010Subject: Re: Hello would be Senators - I have 4 quick questions.> The real question is, are we> going to put the interests of children first or not?Thank you for taking the time to respond. Unfortunately, you didn'treally answer any of my questions or make comment on any of them. Youdid manage a substantial response to the question of gay marriage -which makes it look like that's ALL you're campaigning on.It also indicates to me makes it clear that your policy framework onother issues of importance just isn't there.Unfortunately "Won't somebody think of the children" is just thelamest catch cry - and well parodied by The Simpsons.I do however thank you for taking the time to respond, it's much morethan many candidates took the time to do. As such, although I probablywon't vote for you, I will place my 'under the line' preferences withrespondents ahead of non-respondents.Good luck with your campaign.

I hate politics. It makes me angry!
I am quite disillusioned by everyone - Labor, LNP, The Greens, Family First, One Nation - EVERYONE! Polarisation of attitudes will destroy humanity! (too melodramatic?) Last Election - I decided to write to all of the candidates in my electorate, and all senators in my state (Queensland) to find out their views on some very basic, and polarising questions. What now - I guess I start gearing up for the next election!
