QLD Senate - Noel Jackson (D.L.P. - Democratic Labor Party) - Initial Reply

Quick Summary

  1. [Hardening up Border Protection Laws] For
  2. [The Internet Filter] For
  3. [A Price on Carbon / ETS]  Against
  4. [Gay marriage] Against
I had quite an involved email exchange with Noel Jackson, after sending the Chimp Manifesto in reply to his answers. Noel seemed to take an interest in interacting with me, and picked up on some inconsistencies in the "Gay Marriage" issue and the history of marriage.

Full email below, and I'll post the other discussions we've had later.

Hello Nik,

Thank you for your email.
Please see our DLP website for more details on our policies

Your Questions

1) Hardening up Border Protection Laws

See our 2 for 1 policy... We know that there are genuine refugees and that
there fakes as well. The difficulty is working out the genuine from the
fake. However the " open door" policy of the ALP are simply not workable for
the future of this nation.

2) The Internet Filter.

Yes to try to reduce the transmission of child pornography, bomb making
sites and use by terrorist/ criminal organisations (as defined by the
parliament and the courts).

3) A Price on Carbon / ETS.

We oppose this. This is just a cynical tax in disguise, that will make most
in the community worse off.

4) Gay marriage.
We oppose this, as being pointless. The main idea of marriage is to have
biologically related children to both parents - to bring them up in a
supportive and stable environment as is possible.
While I am not homophobic, I honesty believe that gay "marriage " is a silly
idea.
The idea came about in the 1990s by the Gay Electoral Lobby of NSW to try to
circumvent the Inheritance Laws, as they stood then and now, so that
relatives of a deceased person could not successfully challenge a Will when
the deceased estate was left to a gay (surviving) partner. It has nothing to
do with anything else.
(Personal viewpoint) I have always said that challenged Last Wills and
Testaments affect the wider community and that strengthening Inheritance
Laws would be preferred and make more sense.

I hope that I have answered your questions.

Sincerely
Noel Jackson
