QLD Senate - John Pyke (Limit Pokies Group) - Initial Reply

John Pyke (Limit Pokies Group) has responded - note the AEC candidate details list John Pyke without any party name - but he identifies himself as "Limit Pokies Group".

John's response on Hardening up Border Protection laws was excellent!

Quick Summary

  1. [Hardening up Border Protection Laws]  Against
  2. [The Internet Filter] For (conditional on it filtering out 'the real nasties')
  3. [A Price on Carbon / ETS]  For
  4. [Gay marriage] For Civil Unions (i think)

Hi - sorry for the slow reply - busy week!  I'm the lead candidate for the Limit the Pokies Group - flyer attached, and see http://ozconstinfo.freehomepage.com/pokies/ for a bit more detail, which may grow over the next 10 days.

As to your specific questions:

    > 1) Hardening up Border Protection Laws  Border protection?  We are already quite sufficiently "protecting" our borders.  Nobody is threatening to invade us.  We should do what we can to dissuade poor desperate folk from risking their lives to get here in an irregular way, but let's not demonise them as 'illegal'.  Some Muslims are evil and mad (and some "Christians" are almost as bad) - but the ones coming on the boats are trying to get away from the mad, evil ones.

    > 2) The Internet Filter - I'd be in favour of it IF it could selectively filter out the real nasties like kiddie porn and bomb-making recipes without slowing down web access and with a quick and effective review system to make sure only the nasties were filtered.  Otherwise I'm against it.

    > 3) A Price on Carbon / ETS  Yes - all the experts (including one who did a PhD at my law school) seem to say that a direct tax would be more effective than a supposed "market" mechanism.  And the sunny country - especially the "Smart" or Sunshine State - should be leading the world on solar power.  And global warming is real, and is man-made - watch http://nsidc.org/data/seaice_index/images/daily_images/N_daily_extent_hires.png and see if the N-W Channel opens up before or just after polling day.

    > 4) Gay marriage  There are 2 things I don't really understand.   First, why gay people want something formally called "marriage" and won't settle for a registered civil union (as a joker said, they want to be as miserable as the rest of us!).  But even more incomprehensible is why so many who lead "Christian" groups are so passionately opposed to it.

Cheers - if you save your time and just vote 1 above the line for Group F your preferences will be distributed very much in accordance with the above answers.  Otherwise, have fun with your 1 to 60

John Pyke - Limit the Pokies Group
